Culture and Clothing
People of North East have a strong affinity to their race, ethnicity & have strong inclination for preservation of the same.In the rural areas, where people reside in their particular ethnic group, there are stringent rules, customs and traditions to be followed & flouting them is taken very seriously.As the people belong to the lesser developed part of the country, their basic culture & beliefs are intact & there is less proliferation of modernity in their values. They have rich cultural heritage bonds which give them a sense of exclusivity & belongingness.
With an array of tribes and communities to flaunt, the region of North- East is culturally very rich and is known for its distinct and traditional lifestyle. Every tribal group boasts of an individual culture in terms of art, music, folk-dances, handicrafts, food and fabric cultivation. The vibrant and vivacious culture of the area is visible in the traditional attires, the delicious cuisines and indigenous crafts. Two of the dance forms from Assam and Manipur called Sattriya and Manipuri dance respectively have been declared as the classical dance forms of the country. People of these states have different traditional dresses and costumes, which only can be explored during the fair and festival season.
The traditional costume of Garo women in Meghalaya consists of Jainsen, which is an unstitched garment woven from mulberry silk and wrapped around the body.
The other states of North East have varied clothing pertaining to their respective tribes.
North-East Indian Cuisine represents an exotic blend of mouth watering dishes with regional differences and foreign influence. The cuisine is more inclined towards non vegetarian.
