History and Culture
Neil Island was uninhabited until the arrival of settlers in the late 1960s. Like Havelock, the vast majority of settlers at Neil were refugees from erstwhile Bangladesh, following the exodus of Hindu Bangladeshis prior to that country's war of independence in 1971.Neil Island is known for its natural wonders, especially the beaches. Neil Island has exquisite coral and marine life. There are small lagoons in Ramnagar and Laxmanpur beaches perfect for snorkeling. Life in Neil feels slower and more relaxed, especially when all you are doing is spending time sunbathing, reading, or just lying on the beach.
