The Reserve is situated in the Vindhyan Ranges and spreads over Panna and Chattarpur districts in the north of the state. Panna National Park was created in 1981. It was declared a Project Tiger Reserve by the Government of India in 1994. The National Park consists of areas from the former Gangau Wildlife Sanctuary created in 1975. Panna is the twenty-second Tiger Reserve of India and fifth in Madhya Pradesh.

  • Famous for its diamond industry as well as its wildlife, Panna National Park is home to The majestic Royal Bengal Tiger. Besides the tiger, there are other kinds of mammals in the park-like wolf, wild dogs, leopards, sambhar, chital, nilgai, and chinkara.
  • One of the main attractions of the Panna Tiger Reserve is the Ghariyal, a fish-eating crocodile that is found exclusively in the Indian subcontinent.
  • Panna was once a royal hunting ground, becoming a reserve in 1981, then finally a protected Tiger Reserve in 1994, 22nd in the country and 5th in the state of Madhya Pradesh
  • Featuring thick teak forests and a diverse landscape of gorges and plateaus down the Ken River, the cleanest waterway in India and life-line of the park.
  • At Panna you can spot White-necked stork, Bareheaded goose, Honey-buzzard, King vulture, Blossom-headed parakeet, Paradise flycatcher, Slaty-headed Scimitar babbler and many other species. The best time to catch a glimpse of the migratory birds is during winter.

Climate

November to May is the best time to visit Panna. Winters are comparatively cooler and more pleasant. It is especially recommended to visit this place during March because that is when you would get to see the wildlife at Panna National Park. In winters Temperature ranges between 12-28 Degree.

July - September are the wettest months and Park remains shut in these monsoon months. In Summers it can range between 28-42 Degrees.
